The Alaska Libertarian Party
Since 1974
All of your freedoms
All of the time
Our mission
Is to offer Alaskan voters a better alternative to the “lesser of two evils” two-party system. The Libertarian Party is the only nationwide political party that recognizes you are the best person to make decisions about your business, your family, and your life.
In practice, this means fielding candidates who advocate for policies that allow Alaskans to keep more of their hard-earned money; promote school choice to empower parents, and students; and push for deregulation at the federal, state, and local levels to encourage innovation and entrepreneurship.
By championing these values, the Alaska Libertarian Party aims to build a future where diversity in thought and action is not only tolerated, but celebrated. We believe that when people are free to pursue their passions and interests, the entire state will benefit from the resulting creativity, prosperity, and resilience.
What we stand for
The Full PFD
The statutory calculation is the law. Every year politicians in Juneau pass more and more laws for us to follow, while not even following the law themselves.
“Rules for thee, not for me.”
Bodily Autonomy
Your health and medical choices should stay between you and your doctor; it’s not any of the government’s business.
Self-Defense
Every individual has an innate right to defend life, liberty, and property; and to keep and bear the arms necessary to do so.
Free Speech
We oppose any government effort to curtail the free expression of ideas online or in any other public venue.
Self-Determination
Alaska has the right to nullify unconstitutional federal laws, and to determine for ourselves how to use and conserve our land and natural resources without interference from D.C. bureaucrats.
Police Reform
We oppose the enforcement of victimless crimes, and unconstitutional domestic surveillance.

Nicholas Conrad
ChairNicholas drove the Alcan from Seattle to Anchorage in 2007 and has lived there ever since. He has a B.S. in Business Administration and works as an IT consultant specializing in the non-profit sector. When he’s not traveling the world with his wife, he enjoys spending time in the Alaska outdoors.

Joshua McHoes
Communications DirectorJoshua is a policy advocate focused on Alaska resource development, grid reliability, land rights, fiscal responsibility, and long-term economic growth. His work centers on durable property rights, civil liberties and bodily autonomy, election reform, drug policy reform, and criminal justice reform.
He has lived in Alaska since early childhood and has spent much of his life seeing how decisions made far from the state affect local communities, infrastructure, and economic opportunity. That experience shaped his skepticism of centralized policy and his interest in approaches that account for Alaska’s geography, scale, and on-the-ground realities.
Joshua became involved in liberty-oriented advocacy in 2012 after growing dissatisfied with limited political choice. Since then, his work has focused on practical policy engagement rather than ideological messaging.
His background includes both formal education and skilled trades. He studied electrical engineering before completing a degree in political science and economics, with coursework in mathematics, and public policy. In parallel, he worked in the electrical trades, gaining firsthand experience with energy systems, infrastructure constraints, and the practical consequences of regulatory and permitting decisions.
Joshua is also the founder of Seawolves for Liberty at UAA, supporting student organizers and campus initiatives. He has also held roles within the Libertarian Party at both the state and national level, including platform, technology, and organizational work, as well as service as a national convention delegate.
His current policy interests reflect Alaska’s material constraints, including reliable energy systems, responsible natural resource development, protection of land use rights, and fiscal frameworks that support productive economic activity rather than short-term political spending. He supports nuclear energy as part of a diversified and reliable grid, alongside decentralized infrastructure where appropriate.
His focus is on whether policies improve economic opportunity, protect civil liberties, and allow individuals and communities to operate with greater agency.

Chris Poirot
Treasurer | Fundraising ChairI was born and raised in Girdwood, Alaska, spent many years in Anchorage, and am now happily a resident of the Matanuska Valley with my wife and newborn son. I have always been in love with all the outdoors of Alaska has to offer. I was originally introduced to Libertarianism through Ron Paul like many people my age and was never able to unsee the obvious truths he said in 2008 and 2012.
I am passionate about this State and the people here, and it is the economic future we are seeing that has me worried. Our state budget is ballooning, revenue decreasing, and people are leaving. COVID made it obvious that being passive was no longer an option. I decided after seeing everything the Government tried and failed, that I needed to get active, and officially joined the Libertarian Party as an active and participating member.

Leighton Radner
PlaceholderLeighton Radner assumed the role of Communications Director at the 2024 convention, having previously served as the Interim Communications Director. His journey into the Libertarian sphere began as a commentator, where he began hosting a show delving into Libertarian topics and current events with humor.
He has been actively involved in editing videos and content across the online Libertarian movement. Additionally, he has participated in multiple candidate training events and traveled extensively to Libertarian gatherings, engaging in networking and discussions that highlight Alaska’s unique perspective.
Leighton is enthusiastic about his position as Communications Director and is eager to contribute to the growth of the party.
